Transparent fees

How Tutor Break's first-lesson administration fee works

Tutor Break does not charge a student registration fee or take ongoing commission from every lesson. After a successful match, the first lesson fee is the platform administration fee; from lesson two, payment goes directly to the tutor.

Key points

  • The student matching form is free.
  • After a successful arrangement, the first lesson fee is Tutor Break's administration fee.
  • From lesson two, payment goes directly to the tutor with no ongoing commission.
  • Confirm rate, duration, date, cancellation and rescheduling before starting.

Payment flow from registration to lesson two

  • Register: the student or parent submits subject, district, schedule and requirements for free.
  • Match: Tutor Break contacts potentially suitable tutors and confirms basic arrangements.
  • Lesson one: the student or parent pays Tutor Break an amount equal to that lesson fee as the one-off administration fee.
  • Lesson two onward: the student or parent pays the tutor directly as agreed.

Six details to confirm before lesson one

Confirm tutor ID, hourly rate, lesson duration, date and format, payment method, and rescheduling or cancellation. Materials, travel or any other charges should also be disclosed. A public expected rate is not an automatic final quote.

Why the administration fee and tutor rate are different

The administration fee covers matching and introductory coordination; the tutor rate belongs to the teaching arrangement confirmed by both sides. Direct payment after lesson one removes ongoing platform handling. It does not guarantee quality or availability, so fit still needs confirmation.

If lessons do not continue after the first meeting

Understand cancellation, rescheduling and non-continuation before starting. If fit is poor, record the specific issue—level mismatch, schedule or teaching approach—and explain it to Tutor Break. Do not assume a refund or replacement policy beyond what was confirmed for the case.

Questions when comparing other platforms

  • Is the fee one-off, an ongoing commission or charged separately to tutors?
  • Does the displayed rate include the platform fee?
  • Who receives payment for lesson one and later lessons?
  • How do cancellation, rescheduling, replacement and refunds work?

Sources and methodology

Service information comes from Tutor Break's published matching process, terms and privacy-safe public directory. Catalogue statistics are recalculated from approved data at build time.

Directory data describes published public Tutor Break profiles on the stated date. It does not establish residence, current availability, completed lessons, transaction rates, ranking or a Hong Kong market average.
